Shanghai Mulian Hotel

Shanghai

2017

Completed

Wan Jing Feng Mulian Hotel is close to the west side of the famous Jinhai Lake in Fengxian District. The design not only borrows the scenery, but also creates the scenery, contributing to the harmonious coexistence between the lakeside buildings and the surrounding environment.

Our design was inspired by Jiangnan landscape scrolls: boats, waterfronts, ancient trees, thatched cottages, small bridges and inland rivers. Layers of green, twists and turns, create the shape of different spaces. Utilizing the geographical advantages: embankments, pools, floral sea, puts in modern Chinese feelings.

Apart from the general appointed rooms and suites, the hotel also offers single or duplex villas. Our design focuses on creating space, supplemented by one or two-storey villa-buildings. The villa and the courtyard form an enclosure to define the space. Public space of the hotel is agile, the interior and exterior are coherent, connecting the virtual and the reality. At night, the building embellishes the city and the lakeshore.

The hotel rooms are simple in shape, continuing the layering of the external space, provides a unique leisure environment for guests; and the courtyard, which is specifically designed for families or groups, is more serene, forms an own space in a small independent courtyard. Instead of a minimal architectural design, the garden is built through sophisticated technique to drive the sense of place of the whole project.
